The concept of combining struggles is one which runs through the history of the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and equality.
The capacity for kindness, empathy and shared oppression is perhaps best exemplified by the work of the Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners campaign group from the 1980s, the story of which was made into the much-loved 2014 film "Pride" directed by Matthew Warchus.
LGSM supported the miners during the strike of 1984-5 during the Thatcher years, raising funds to help the struggling miner families.
Together we are stronger
Over the last five years in particular, the climate emergency has begun to emerge as part of Pride conversations, and more Pride marches around the world have seen activists demanding more be done to help stop the effects of climate change.

Organisations such as Queers 4 Climate Justice, Queer EcoJustice Project, Queers X Climate and the Climate Just Collective in the UK have emerged to try and galvanise this intersection of environment and social struggle.
To add to this, more research is emerging showing the direct links between how marginalised communities are most likely to feel the effects of climate change, as Friends of the Earth Scotland explains. The Institute for International Development is also noticing the importance of this key intersection.
